No Pit Bull Ban in Elgin, Illinois

Mayor Ed Schock and the councilmen in Elgin, Illinois, listened to their residents, as they promised there will be no Pit Bull ban or restrictions on Pit Bulls in Elgin.

The Mayor stated that, "Elgin officials should not have gone down this road in the first place, if they had done their homework."
Is breed specific legislation (BSL) a concern in your community?

Now more than ever, the work and support of the community at large and the entire companion animal industry is needed in order to defeat breed specific legislation in favour of dangerous dog legislation that does not single out individual breeds.

Since 1888, The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) has worked tirelessly to promote and ensure a fair and accurate representation of all purebred dogs--particularly in the face of canine safety legislation.

THE CANADIAN KENNEL CLUB:
  • supports dangerous and/or vicious dog legislation that serves to protect the public from dangerous dogs
  • stresses that dangerous temperament is a product of many factors, and not determined by breed alone
  • believes that banning a particular type of dog is a reactionary measure with little effect
  • believes that BSL could push indiscriminate breeders and/or owners underground
At PetLynx, we support the views of our community partners who believe that public education; stronger enforcement of existing by-laws, and stiffer penalties for owners is more effective than BSL.

Learn how you can connect with other thought leaders in the companion animal industry to address important issues like BSL. Check out the International Summit for Urban Animal Strategies to be held at Lake Louise, Alberta, 13 - 16 October 2010.
