Injured Dog Struggles to Raise Litter of Five: Four Puppies and One Kitten!

At  PetLynx  Corporation we LOVE happy endings! So we are thrilled to share this amazing story from Edmonton, Alberta, of how love and family are important .... especially at Christmas!

She was a young, homeless single mom trying to raise her puppies, but true to the spirit of the season there was room for one more...

The badly injured  German Shepherd-cross was caring for her newborn puppies — and a kitten — on a central Alberta reserve when she was found by rescue volunteer Criss Gerwin.

Gerwing took the entire family to the Edmonton Humane Society, where veterinarians thought they'd have to amputate the mother dog's bad leg. But local vet, Dr. Milton Ness, Capilano Veterinary Clinic, volunteered to do a special surgery that saved her hind quarter.

The dog is expected to fully recover.  She, her puppies and her kitten may soon be available for adoption. Her new name -- Esperanza -- bodes well for her and her furry family's future — it means "hope" in Spanish.

PetLynx Brings Molly Home!

Molly, a 12-year-old Labrador X, and our golden retriever puppy went missing last December shortly after we moved to Edmonton, Alberta.

The dogs somehow escaped from their fenced yard at about 6:00 a.m. and the search for them began shortly after. The puppy was picked up by the City of Edmonton Animal Services about 90 minutes later... and was back home before noon. But there was no sign of Molly! Animal Services told us about PetLynx, so we posted Molly's lost report there and checked regularly for possible matches.

I checked the dog pound just about every day and, as the days wore on, began to think we had lost her for good. Molly is a house pet, and the morning she went missing was the start of the coldest days of the year. The fact we moved to an area where it was possible she could have been hit by a car had me really worried!

Molly had been gone for seven days when we received a phone call from someone who found her information posted on PetLynx. Molly had been wandering around an alley and she appeared to be injured but she would not go very close them so they could check her. The kind-hearted citizens managed to bribe her to come into their yard. She immediately ran under their deck and hid in an area where they could not reach her. There she stayed for several days.

We went to the home and my son called her name. She came running from out under the deck, with her tail wagging like nothing had happen. She did not display any signs of being outside for the past week. The injury the family had noticed had since healed, and we were so very happy to find her.

Molly is my son’s dog and we had brought her home when he was only 6-years-old. The day we found her was only four days before his 17th birthday. He said it was the best present he could have gotten this year.

I believe that without our lost report being on PetLynx we might never have gotten our beloved Molly back. Thanks for all you help.

The Cats Came Back!

More HomeSafe Success Stories:

I just wanted everyone to know, that if you have lost a pet…. don’t give up and prayer is always a great resource! I had lost my indoor cat, named Paws, for two and a half days. He had never been outside before and he is declawed from a previous owner so, needless to say, I was quite worried about him. But with a lot of prayers and searching, he came home! I had left food out for him on the back deck as well as his litter box. So my Paws is now home safe and very happy to be home!

I was moving and hadn't gotten settled enough to bring my cats, Milo and Cidney, to my new home. One day, Milo bolted past my ex-wife while she was leaving the house and ran down the street. I emailed a friend of mine a few pictures of Milo and she was kind enough to post lost cat ads on Kijiji, Craig's List, PetLynx, and the SPCA website.

Milo was gone for two weeks before someone saw his picture on Kijiji and contacted me. I rewarded the person for keeping Milo safe. Apparently the young man was learning how to drive with his father and just about hit Milo as he darted in front of the vehicle! When they stopped to check that the cat was okay, Milo jumped into the car!

After I picked Milo up from his rescuers, I made arrangements to pick up Cidney, so they could be together at my new home.  I thanked all my friends for supporting me and not letting me give up hope in finding him.

The End ;)

Thank YOU for thanking us!

One most rewarding aspects of working with PetLynxTM is knowing that our efforts are making a positive impact in the community as a whole and in the lives of individuals and families and their companion animals!

In cyberspace, PetLynx and the AutoMatchTM program are a powerful computer system that help get lost pets HomeSafeTM... but behind the scenes, PetLynx is powered by people who care passionately about companion animals.

We love it when you share your 'Lost and Found' success stories with us. Whether PetLynx played a role in the pet recovery or not, we view every happy homecoming as a triumph.

Here are a couple of our most recent accolades:

Our valued dog disappeared the day my daughter moved into Edmonton. Thanks to a wonderful person who noticed the shy dog hanging around their yard, our dog was taken into their home and cared for. Our vet was notified and contacted us. Thanks for your service. It kept our hopes alive. After four days my daughter is reunited with her dog.
Ray P.

I would like to thank this network as it has helped find our missing cat. It was great to be reunited with 'Boots'. So once again a BIG THANK YOU.

Lost Dog.... Found in Five Minutes! Really!

Here is an amazing story of how PetLynx helped our family find our two-year-old Labrador cross, "Otis."

On August 19th Otis escaped out of a partially opened gate and was gone about 10 minutes before we noticed he was missing. We had just moved to our house the weekend before, so we knew that he would not know how to find his way home.

Everyone was in a panic, my son drove around the area looking for him and his son rode around on his bike. I went inside and had just finished putting Otis’s profile on Petlynx and was printing out the lost posters when the phone rang. Much to my surprise, it was a women who saw the profile on Petlynx!

I couldn’t believe it only took less than five minutes from posting Otis as LOST to having him FOUND! I can't put into words my family's appreciation to PetLynx for helping us get Otis back -- he is one of the family.

You truly are guardian angels to lost pets.

Thank you so much!

Geriatric Cat Makes a Great Escape!

When Norma K. discovered that her 21-year-old cat, Skeezix, had escaped from the safety of her back yard she was frantic with worry.

"There is a cat control bylaw in Edmonton, so Skeezix and my other cats are only allowed to go into the secured back yard," explains this Edmonton resident. "Somehow, he managed to dig a hole under the fence and escape. I think he was unhappy because we had just taken in a third rescue cat."

To add to Norma's distress, she lives on the edge of a ravine and says that she can hear coyotes and foxes at night. "I was afraid that Skeezix would make easy prey," she said. "He is old and doesn't move so quickly any more. I was also worried because he needs daily medication and I knew that he would get sick very quickly without it."

Norma says that she discovered PetLynx when she went to the Edmonton Animal Control website and they had a link to our site.

"It was a huge relief for me to have something to turn to so quickly," says Norma. "Petlynx helped me get information out, create posters, search my local animal shelter. As importantly, it helped me feel like I was doing something proactive, other than fretting and wandering the streets calling for him. I truly appreciate your service!

Norma added that using the Petlynx service reminded her just how important it is to have up to date, close up pictures of animal companions - just in case they get lost!

The Cat Came Back

"The Cat Came Back" is no longer just the title of a folk song... it's a true story with a happy ending for one grateful pet family living in Edmonton, Alberta.

"We are so happy to announce that 'The Cat Came Back'," wrote the N family in a recent HomeSafe blog posting. "Although it took three days, we are delighted to say that Trixi arrived home in the middle of the third night [after she went] missing. We are overjoyed! Thanks for all your help and good luck to all who are looking for their little loved ones."

At PetLynx, we were happy to hear that Trixi arrived HomeSafe! We are pleased when pet families take the time to share their happy tales with us. 'Found' pet stories like this provide inspiration and hope to others who are waiting for news of their missing animal companions.

Welcome back home Trixi!

Thanks to Edmonton Animal Services!

What a great service you have!!! My sincere thanks to your program. We found our dog sooner than waiting to go to the pound the next day, possibly saving his life. He was hit by a car and we were able to pick him up and take him to the vet hospital ASAP. THANK YOU

Thanks to Edmonton Animal Services!!!

I successfully used PetLynx yesterday to return a found dog (Bauer) to his owner who had posted her dog as lost in Edmonton. I am very grateful that you provide this service :-) Your service is great as it did allow me to get Bauer home the day after I found him.
